St Kilda
Lying 40 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean, this island archipelago is the most westerly of the Outer Hebrides. The sea cliffs on the main island Hirta are the highest in the UK. The entire population was evacuated in 1930; remains of the village are still in evidence.
As well as its breeding seabird colonies, the islands are home to the St Kilda wren and the St Kilda field mouse.
